Zondag aanstaande komen om 13 uur bij het podium op de Weeshuisweide in Coevorden magnolialiefhebbers samen voor het lopen van de magnoliaroute. In zo'n anderhalf uur gaat die door straten en achterommetjes langs bloeiende en boeiende magnolia's. Uit een opwelling ontstaan en ondertussen een traditie die zich aan het uitbreiden is naar andere dorpen en steden. Vier het voorjaar!

Mijn leraar Nederlands bestrafte me ooit omdat ik schreef: "antiekwinkeltjes schieten de grond uit". Dat moest zijn: "antiekwinkeltjes schieten als paddenstoelen de grond uit." Sindsdien zorg ik dat mijn spreekwoorden en gezegden en metaforen altijd compleet zijn. Beter ten halve gekeerd dan de klok horen luiden.

For the last 25 years, I've relied on RSS for a lot of blogs that I read regularly.

If some of those have adopted slop images, I won't necessarily know, as I don't see their images.

And, if your blog does not have (full text, please) RSS, please do consider adding it! It is the future.

Ook bijzonder: op Instagram kan ik alleen berichten plaatsen als ik Instagram toegang geeft tot de camera EN de microfoon. Als ik dat niet wil moet ik eerst een foto maken en daarna Instagram toegang geven tot de foto.

What if LLMs are more like homeopathy? We've known that homeopathy doesn't work any better than a placebo for decades, and yet here we are.

People still study to become homeopathic practitioners. People still choose it over treatments which have been validated by rigorous scientific studies.

People still get rich selling sugar pills, and spend a portion of those profits to prevent their sugar pill industry from being effectively regulated.

I'm not saying the technology is inevitable. At the same time I think it's important to acknowledge how common it is for discredited practices to retreat to the fringes rather than fade away entirely.
