When I was born, the world was still shocked by the assassination of J.F. Kennedy. I grew up in south-western Germany, close to the border to Luxembourg. Geography plus some family history made it no surprise that very most of my professional career took place in this wonderful country. Besides my IT related work, I have always been and are still a musician. There is more about myself at: https://www.hermannfass.de/
@ddrumming Sehr interessant. Danke für den Link zum Video. Bin irgendwann beim Rohema 5AX angekommen: Die Extra-Länge und die Härte der Spitze (Beckenklang und Haltbarkeit) waren die Gründe.
@luizsantosmusic Impressive music. I just wonder how you managed timing and playing together in such a complex manner. Did you record this as a live-recording (i.e. all playing together in one room at the same time)?
Vielen Dank für Euere Stimme bei einem Band-Contest: Astrid & Co. Einfach registrieren auf:

@spacefan1756 Use sandpaper (or a sharp knife held at 90 degrees to the wood) to scratch away unwanted labelling (flag, text “AMERICAN”). That removes also the lacquer, so that you have the option to write something on that spot with a thin , waterproof felt-tip pen.
For new sticks, I recommend Rohema: European origin; highest quality; lower price; increased durability. (My choice is the Rohema 5AX, but their 5A is also great.)
@PeterPractice Heel down is also my preference and I agree to those who say that it gives more control over volume and feel. (Did you know that the great JR Robinson is a heel down player?)

Here is something I wrote for maintaining my own bass drum technique; perhaps I should publish it on my website, too. Here is a preview for you. Just read the instructions (examples on how to use on page 4) and play slowly. The first page covers all double kicks you might need.

@PeterPractice No. 🙂
Practice both heel up and heel down. Imho heel down is strong for:
a. Playing at low to medium volume.
b. Feathering the bass drum.
c. Most comping techniques.
Many heel-up drummers bury the beater (i.e. leave it on the bass drum head until the next kick), which might not be the sound you want.
For hard and heavy rock music that demands a loud (and often fast) bass drum, I would indeed always go heel up, but apply a technique that allows the beater to bounce back a bit.

1. Invest a few $$ for an in-person introduction by an excellent teacher. That avoids mistakes which might become difficult to correct later-on.
2. I checked a few beginner tutorials by great drummers, but many have flaws or deem confusing. Funny: I found one by a very young girl (with a strong German accent) that seems clear and correct:

3. Whatever you practice: Do it slowly and accurately to a metronome.
Good luck!

I wonder if you are looking for bass drum exercises (in case you can read music those are easy to find) or for songs to train your bass drum timing (“She’s got issues” is also in a good tempo for practicing).
