Last time I went, there was a "parade" before the main race, which I found hilarious and very French..
(A bakery truck, cows, cheeses, various local produce. The big Madeleine, throwing little wrapped madeleine cakes to the crowd)

From the other end.. the road line much clearer, but the trees are dying here (competition? Thinner soil?).
There are gaps, and trees dying back.
Beech trees can live to 350 years, there are some twice the size along the river road.

These beech trees are 200+ years old, and mark where a road must have been.
It's now stranded in the middle of the public forest, the hillside is mostly pine plantations.
There's a ruined farmhouse nearby, where it must have led.
