I'm a committed #Mastodon user. But I sympathize with the complaints she has gathered and understand why they drove many users away.
All of us who are here and committed to stay should take them seriously, especially if we want more people from our networks to give Mastodon a try (not deterred by its reputation), like what they find (not deterred by their experience), and decide to join us.

@Midnight @marcel @mpesce Sometimes, the price of #FineArt is a function also of ownership history and/or origin (aka lineage and provenance), documentation which is compiled by the seller and may be incomplete and/or (partially) counterfeit. A third party could manage these records in a database, but might not be trusted by others, (be blackmailed into) tampering with records, raise prices absurdly, or refuse business. Perhaps #NFTs offer solutions?
@wfryer @techprophet From #CLEAR (and similar companies) successfully operating for years it can be deduced that a private company storing biometric data isn’t new nor necessarily a privacy concern demanding more regulation. Worldcoin is reportedly now being looked at by a number of regulatory authorities in different countries, which I personally think is great.
@mpesce @Midnight @marcel I think it is also a requirement that the “serial number” must be unique. There are probably many NFTs called “Bored Ape #1” for sale, which all have the same edition number, #1, but where there are additional identifiers which render the NFT unique. A nefarious person can easily copy a jpeg, and assign any title and edition number; but as far as I understand, cannot fake all identifiers, e.g the contract identifier.
@marcel @Midnight @mpesce Regrettably, there are a lot of counterfeit (physical) trading cards; even instances when several rare cards having the identical serial number suddenly appear. Telling the real thing apart from fakes is sometimes easy, but increasingly dependent on forensic methods which aren’t readily available to the average collector. I’m not an expert, but surely a serial number cannot reasonably be the sole information associated with an NFT?
