The technology is amazing that we now watch a live video feed of Mauna Loa erupting. It was 80 years ago when the Mauna Loa ‘Secret Eruption’ occurred where they didn’t want anyone to know about it as it could be a visual guide for enemy warplanes to fly to the islands during the WWII blackouts. https://www.usgs.gov/volcanoes/mauna-loa/1942-secret-eruption

At about 11:30 p.m. HST, Nov 27, an eruption began in Mokuaweoweo, the summit caldera of Mauna Loa, inside Hawaii Volcanoes Nat Park. Currently, lava flows are contained within the summit area & are not threatening downslope communities. Winds may carry volcanic gas & possibly fine ash & Pele's hair downwind.
Residents at risk from Mauna Loa lava flows should review preparedness & refer to Hawaii County CD info for guidance. #HawaiiMastodon #usgs #lava #MaunaLoa USGS: https://on.doi.gov/3AQ2vgD
