If everyone refuse to comply, and let their accounts dormant instead, I promise you the platforms themselves, with their immense budget and network of lobbyists, are going to fight these absurd laws to recover their users.

They need you more than you need them.
Make them fight for your rights.
Do not comply.

There is a vision worth taking seriously: #culturalinstitutions should not arrive at the #SocialWeb as latecomers, following a technological trend. They should arrive as protagonists.
This is what the priorities outlined by @_elena (“I have a dream”), point to: museums, archives, and libraries have a central role in the popularization of the Fediverse—not as trend-followers, but as anchors of trust and reference for the public.

(On a related matter, Small Technology Foundation gets under €400/month in donations – https://small-tech.org/fund-us. Thank you to everyone who contributes but I don’t think anyone believes this is in any way enough for us to survive. Instead I’ve had to sell two family homes we had in Turkey and now Laura contracts in the mainstream while I work on getting the Small Web ready for this year. This is how little support we have. It is, quite frankly, appalling when you think that the shittiest startup ideas regularly get $5M in VC and I wouldn’t recommend doing what we do to my worst enemy, much less to a recent graduate who wants to work in ethical tech.)
