@ohir @TritTriton @user365 @Vivaldi Other people have already compiled Chromium and Tor Browser for you: https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium#downloads https://www.torproject.org/download/
If grandma is able to install Vivaldi she's able to install these... and I just realized your instance is @vivaldi.net, idk why I didn't read the instance name before wasting my time trying to talk you out of advertising a product you're clearly invested in selling to others.
@ohir @TritTriton @user365 @Vivaldi But if grandma refuses to or can’t let go of the modern web she could try the Tor Browser, ungoogled-chromium, etc, basically anything that isn’t just Chrome/Firefox bundled with even more spyware on top, which is the case with Vivaldi.
@ohir @TritTriton @user365 @Vivaldi Grandma is not interested in “fighting big tech” and “resisting capitalism” so she’ll be just fine on Chrome, there’s no need to install a false revolutionary messiah on her computer that’s just going to harvest her data all the same and sell it to the same buyers. If grandma really wanted to get away from all of this she ought to minimize her exposure to the modern web instead, it’s the only real solution.

@Vivaldi @Thales_Curiosities >outdated

The article I sent was last updated in 2022 and shows malicious user data collection, the post you sent is from 2019, there are some possible conclusions here:

1. Vivaldi has time travel technology?

2. In 2019 Vivaldi had no spyware but it was added somewhere between then and 2022?

3. That article is full of lies and the spyware was always present?

Replace whoever was responsible for this dumb reply with an LLM and you’ll get better results.

@lispi314 @mcc @nina_kali_nina @luana Denial, classic. Thank you for the laughs, if there's anything I did wrong it was to claim you were at the peanut gallery, after reading this I realized you're more like the main stage clown. Have a good one!
@lispi314 @mcc @nina_kali_nina @luana Oh yeah, surely that's what you were going for when you complained about the use of the "corposcum" term "open source", right? Surely you didn't just try to gotcha me with the classic "uhm akshually you pleb it's called Free Software (free as in freedom not cost btw) and not Open Source" and failed hard. You can't even fool yourself.
What is Free Software? - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation

Since 1983, developing the free Unix style operating system GNU, so that computer users can have the freedom to share and improve the software they use.

@lispi314 @mcc @nina_kali_nina @luana What would you have me call Bitwarden instead of open source? "Free software"? If you did you'd be completely wrong, Bitwarden does not fit that definition since it has proprietary modules, proprietary enterprise features, proprietary infrastructure for the official server and so on. Rule #1 of LARPing as a tech vegan warrior is to look up what these terms mean so you don't embarrass yourself attempting to correct others like you just did.
