Hello. I'm standing for the #GreenParty in #MileEnd in #TowerHamlets. Promoted by Daniel Smith, Tower Hamlets Green Party @ 10 Arbery Road, London, E3 5DD

Many housing associations provide vital social housing, and many look after their tenants with compassion and care. At the same time, some are responsible for trapping often very vulnerable tenants in the most horrible squalor and danger. The system needs rebalancing and opening up to scrutiny. The worst should not be given a pass by riding on the government’s goodwill towards the best.

Facing Eviction: A Tenant's Battle Against Damp and Disrepair

Facing homelessness and health risks, one tenant exposes systemic failures in housing safety and tenant rights. Discover her urgent story.

Social Housing Action Campaign

In London, if you see a streetlight out or other fault on TfL's network, you can report it through the FixMyStreet.com website from the excellent MySociety (also known for WhatDoTheyKnow.com).

E.g. https://www.fixmystreet.com/report/9023901

Unfortunately, not all boroughs (including, sadly, Tower Hamlets) take reports through FixMyStreet.com, but the site will let you know who is responsible for an area and give you links to their reporting contacts or forms.

As @sianberry says, we absolutely need a UK Digital Sovereignty Strategy. Outsourcing our IT to other countries is a massive risk. You're not too big or too small for a capricious administration to pull the rug from under your foreign-owned cloud services and paralyse your organisation. Look what happened to the International Criminal Court.

Opinion: Why do we rely on US tech giants in the UK?

Ending our reliance on US tech giants could be a huge opportunity for Brighton’s booming technology sector.

While creating a car/bike frankencharger is an absolutely mad thing to do, @mattgrayyes’s ultimate point, asking why we are not rolling out e-bike charging infrastructure along with EV charging infrastructure, is a good one. Anything that makes any type of cycling an easier choice benefits everyone!

@breizh @katemorley You only need to import the materials once. Build a solar panel or a wind turbine, it pumps out units of power for free for decades. If it eventually breaks, much of the material can be recovered and recycled.

For fossil fuels, you burn or react your fuel once and it is gone forever. You need to import another unit of fuel to make the next unit of power.

@TechConnectify put it better than me in their video https://youtu.be/KtQ9nt2ZeGM

You are being misled about renewable energy technology.

@book @katemorley Well, quite. The issue, as I understand it, is that the ‘marginal unit’ (roughly, the last generator that has to be switched on to meet demand in a half-hour period) is usually a gas turbine, which sets the price for everyone. Gas is expensive. This system creates certainty of supply, but favours producers over consumers. If we can edge out gas through more renewables or dynamic load shedding, prices would come down. Or we could change the system.
