Loved that some students and I spent a good hour today talking about our favorite #books and #movies.

These are the moments I love being a #professor and getting to know my students beyond the classroom.

@pwgtennant Absolutely. I’m not deleting my account, but I’m participating far, far less there.
@[email protected] Haha, good question. :)
@bodhipaksa Ah, that makes sense (and I'm sorry).

@bodhipaksa I'm getting multiple people telling me they don't know "goblin mode." I agree with you that "quiet quitting" and "Wordle" were huge. I haven't heard "warm bank."

That's what's always so interesting though; different regions and people have different popular words!

@amy_rey I love that you made it into a verb!

If you're wondering whether we call turkeys "turkeys" because they come from Turkey, here's a very old, shaky (but short and nicely referenced) video I did about it. (The short answer is "sort of.")

Why Do We Call It a Turkey?

@azulbuho Thanks! (I'm surprised there's an abbreviation for something so specific. 😂 )

@mrthomasadunn Hashtags have been candidates for WOTY in the past.

I love tracking all the various dictionaries' candidates and winners and usually do a round-up podcast in January.

I think about doing my own every year, but I never seem to get around to it. Maybe I'll rally this year, but with the deadlines I'm looking at, probably not.
