Aged computer geek who learns by arguing. Weird obsessions include: paleoanthropology, mythology, space technology, the history of combat aircraft, barbecue, science fiction and fantasy.

You may note that I'm not hiding behind some cute alias. You can search for me under this name and you will find more about me than you have the time or the interest to read.

@georgetakei "I thought dressing up in camo and beating the shit out of women and children was going to be more fun than this."

@Savvyhomestead for car insurance we have switched to liability only on our cars and self-insure the rest. we put (a little less than) what we would normally spend on collision etc. in a high-yield savings account and don't touch it. at this point there is more than enough money in that account to replace our cars (they aren't fancy).

we would do the same thing for our house but the !$*&% bank won't accept self-insurance as an option to cover their investment.

European fascism was and has always been a response to the siren call of USA plantation #slaveocracy, #ManifestDestiny and post-Civil War #JimCrow. if capitalists have to pick between enriching themselves thru slavery or the labor of free citizens, they will go with slavery.

Karl Marx told us as much back in 1861:

do you get why #BlackLivesMatter is the most #antifa shit you can say in USA?

#MAGA is the negrofication of the white middle classes.

deal with it.

@rubenbolling Dilbert stopped being funny sometime around the turn of the millennium. I never thought about Adams until, for some reason, he started getting quoted for his defense of torturing prisoners of war. I hope he died in excruciating agony as he was so enthusiastic about inflicting agony on other (brown) people.

i built a little empire out of some crazy garbage called the blood of the exploited working class / but they've overcome their shyness now / they're call me 'your highness' / and the world screams 'kiss me, son of god'

i destroyed the bonds of friendship and respect between the only people left who'd even look me in the eye / now i laugh and make a fortune / off the same one's that i torture / and the world screams "kiss me, son of god"

They Might Be Giants, "Kiss Me Son of God"

The White House maligned Renee Good and brazenly lied about what actually happened. We need hearings and a full investigation now.
David Bowie was born on this day 1947. He didn’t just influence music; he reshaped culture. From Ziggy Stardust to Blackstar, he showed us that reinvention is art, individuality is strength, and music is limitless.
@madeindex @kotaro To me it is just classic rent-seeking. If you want to engage in rent-seeking, first you must secure a position in which you can charge rent. In the world of selling stuff online, that meant you had to be the first/only place that people would go.
@kotaro @madeindex Yes, Amazon operated in the red for its first 6 years. Bezos understood the importance of size; that the bigger marketplaces would swallow the smaller, and so he prioritized growth over everything else. Many talking-head "business analysts" questioned this strategy but you would never hear them admit it now.
