@relistan Bob Heil was a strong proponent of a boost around 2.5KHz for voice intelligibility. Many of those locally with IC-7300 run the transmit tone controls about -3 for bass and +3 for treble. This results in very clear audio - it doesn't sound sharp or harsh. Sounds similar to the recommendations of the 1970's SSB manual.

My mother's got long covid and has been having a hell of a time using her computer because she can't find the letters on the keyboard.

Today I went and swapped out her Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard (black keys, white letters) for a mechanical keyboard with a set of "gummy bear" multicolored keycaps.

It's night and day. She's typing a THOUSAND percent better. I'm so pleased.

Why would you intentionally throw data away? Which part, how do we choose?

You won't have imagined this: "Researchers started with self-contained autonomous legs that include a central processing unit, battery, and motor. It's a remarkably simple system featuring just one moving joint.

They then fed that design into their AI. From the paper, "feeding modular legs as building blocks to an automatic design algorithm enables the discovery of novel 'species' of agile legged robots."

For some reason "AI is just like watching Netflix" is back in my feeds so I took that as a sign to update my data tracking for Netflix. The company's energy use rose 1% from 2021 to 2024. Compare that to: Google: 71% Nvidia: 88% Meta: 96% Microsoft: 119%
