Good morning, fedizens / fedifriends / masto-mateys 🌅

A reminder on the real #luxuries in life 🙌💞

bgg-client just had its best week ever with 129 downloads on NPM!

Not at all a big number, but considering its a very small project with a very specific niche, I'm happy any time it hits triple digits!

If anyone who sees this is using it, I'm curious what kind of projects you're building!

I was going to use albertatech on YouTube as a great example of someone who pays attention to their captions but 0:18 into the first clip I selected randomly I noticed the word "unity" wasn't capitalized when it should have been because it was referring to the Unity Engine. ITS A FLIPPING CURSE I TELL YOU!!!

Game Dev vs Web Dev (ft. JetBrains!)

YouTube

Nothing wrong with using automatic or AI transcription, we used it for every video clip. But it can easily mix up words that sound similar, and the important step was making sure the correct words were transcribed.

If you saw any @revenuecat clips on various social media platforms around 2021-2022 chances are I had a hand in them, so I know first-hand how important just taking a couple passes over a transcript can be for more technical content.

My biggest issue with short form video like YouTube Shorts, TikTok, etc is the lack of any attention to the captions. So many errors with the automatic transcription!

While I was trying to get my start in webdev, I took a job working for a small company proofreading captions for these types of video clips and it's really not difficult work. I could proof 2 weeks worth of clips for a client in < 2 hrs.

It's such a small thing that goes a long way towards being a fucking professional.

Obsession

Renovate an estate, manage servants, and pursue romance in Victorian England.

yeah, I don't think we can rely on Apple's on-device model for image analysis folks

If you, like me, are #autistic, then you might be immune to the effects of false or otherwise insidious advertising techniques

According to the article, #neurotypical people are more likely to get distracted by marketing techniques, while us autistics focus on the practical side of a product, rendering those techniques pointless.

Why Advertising Falls Flat in Individuals With Autism

Individuals with autism may be impervious to misleading marketing.

Looking for frontend devs for volunteer open-source team at a humanitarian aid org! As a Frontend Developer at Distribute Aid (https://distributeaid.org), you’ll create new pages for our website and update/maintain existing ones, often working closely with our designers and other devs. Looking for mid/long-term commitment. Main goal is to finally get our website relaunched. Volunteer commitment is ~5h/week.

Stack: NextJS, TypeScript, Strapi, Radix UI

We’re looking for experienced devs who are reliable, organised, and can communicate well. You do not need to know the full stack you’ll be working with. You just need to know how to learn and ask for help if you need it. Previous open source experience is nice but not strictly necessary. If you learn quickly and willingly, we can help you get started

It would be good if you have some availability overlapping with Central European Time and can make it to at least 1x tech hang per month and 1x sprint meeting per quarter (that’s ~4 meetings a month)

Our tech hangs are every Wednesday and Thursday from 6 to 8 pm CET/CEST and sprint meetings are during tech hang on the first Wednesday of each month

Our tech team is international and diverse—most of our team members are in some way marginalised—and leadership is fully queer/trans.

If you’re interested, please get in touch via tech@distributeaid.org. That comes directly to me as the Technical Program Manager. If you have any questions, you can ask me here too :)
