Last month, the GESIS Panel Team joined the 18th Workshop of Panel Surveys in German-speaking countries - an inspiring forum for exchange among panel researchers. We presented work on implementing and documenting research ethics, focusing on the application of RatSWD-based guidelines and challenges in documenting ethical standards in ongoing surveys, as well as our R-Shiny documentation interface.
Many thanks to @FReDA and @bib_bund for the great organization!

Day 2 recap GESIS Panel.dbd Insight Days:

The focus shifted from data to research design. Participants explored how HTML parsing enables analysis of not only URLs but also website content, and learned practical approaches for developing web tracking study designs. Try it yourself with this project kick-starter by Frank Mangold.

We’re excited to see the research ideas that will emerge from our workshop discussions.

Follow our page so you don’t miss future GESIS Panel workshops.

On the first Day we kicked off the workshop with a deep dive into the foundations of the GESIS Panel.dbd infrastructure. Participants learned about the panel’s recruitment and structure, how web tracking data are collected, and how digital traces (URLs, timestamps, HTML) are generated and stored. In the afternoon, two hands‑on sessions introduced the structure of both survey and web tracking data, giving participants the chance to explore the research possibilities these data offer.

Last week, the GESIS Panel.dbd Insight Days brought together 18 researchers from different disciplines to explore how web tracking and survey data can be integrated for social science research.

Participants examined the data structure, methodological approaches, and technical challenges within the GESIS Panel.dbd infrastructure.

In the next two posts, we’ll highlight key takeaways from Day 1 and Day 2—stay tuned.
