Yer proprietor is a grey-hair of the Fediverse and tends towards a curmudgeonly "FAFO, doesn't involve me!"

But especially for EU friends who may find themselves seeing a lot of superficially-informed "W is the Bluesky for EU+verification": accepting them as that looks like it's actually quite a risky proposition ... and risky for trust & safety globally across all our protocols.

BT broadbands support is so broken , the app, the website, the overall thought that this constitutes a service that I should be happy to pay for !!??

Looks like an interesting and useful #unconference event for UK #policy aligned folk.

Policy Camp

Policy Camp is an unconference for policy practitioners, taking place at UCL on 23 July 2026.

DIY Solidarity Updates!

We were speechless at the number of applications we got in 2026. This year, we received twice as many as in 2025, which unfortunately meant turning down some projects we really loved. To stretch the fund across as many diverse initiatives as possible, some recipients had to receive less than we had hoped.

We're already working to grow the fund for next year. If you have ideas for benefit events or local fundraisers for DIY Solidarity, get in touch so we can build an even bigger solidarity pot together for 2027.

Projects funded through #DIYSolidarity in 2026:

๐ŸŒ Los Entrenamientos Populares y Antifascistas by Accion Antifascista Ecuador
๐ŸŒ Anti-Hunger Mobile/Food Not Bombs in Bacolod City, Philippines
๐ŸŒ Hunger Strikers' zine, compiled by people associated with Prisoners for Palestine
๐ŸŒ "Antipode" vol. II, documenting underground punk scenes from SWANA, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and their diasporas
๐ŸŒ Solidarity Minded mutual aid project
๐ŸŒ Kalinga at Paghilom, a survivor-led workshop on navigating interpersonal and gendered
violence in the Philippine anarchist-punk spaces, including members from Abolisyon!
๐ŸŒ Fanzine Club, a global online zine archive
๐ŸŒ La Coordinadora Anarquista Tejiendo Libertad (CATL), an anarchist network in Abya Yala (Latin America)
๐ŸŒ Squat Fest, Philippines
๐ŸŒ Punx Suicida Records, anarchist space in Xalapa, Veracru, Mexico
๐ŸŒ Resilience Collective, organizing DIY shows in Cluj-Napoca, Romania

Visuals @Ghas

P.S. Two more projects that did not respond in time will receive additional funding.
- Pasar Bebas Uang, the โ€œReally Really Free Market movementโ€ in Indonesia
- Casa Feral, DIY space in Chalco, Mexico

Saw the Backrooms film. Iโ€™ve watched most of his YouTube videos on it (I think). Quite enjoyed it, a bit David Lynch, even a bit Cronenberg I think (videodrome) but still its own thing.

Just a reminder that Usenet, the original de-centralised, federated internet discussion forum without companies or governments deciding who gets to post what, is still alive 45+ years after its inception. And no age verification either.

It's very light-weight too and a breeze to peruse, unencumbered by malicious surveillance tech and ad optimisation, especially with a text-based UI like tin.

Iโ€™m not @emf ing this year , getting into state Unemployment shortly before tickets came out (and still there :-/) so if anyone is gargoyling or has a spare robot that I can patch into during the festivities

:)

Also I started toying with building a MeshCore kit for End of the Road festival to try stuff out, so any cooler ideas on this kind of thing let me know please :) thanks

Signal flare! Having seen and experienced the massive uplift produced by Lifehouses โ€˜26 in NYC, Iโ€™m wondering if there might not be room for a similar gathering here in the UK within the next several months.

One of the best qualities of the Woodbine event, IMO, was that it was consciously and explicitly โ€œa space for practitioners.โ€ This led to very high-value discussions, focused on the pragmatics of managing autonomous, self-organized spaces โ€“ Iโ€™ve never seen or been part of anything quite like it.

Iโ€™ll be putting together an exploratory committee soon, to see if thereโ€™s realistically enough to go on, but in the meantime please send me your nominations of the UK-based social centers, bookstores/infoshops, hackerspaces, radical-pedagogy collectives, housing coops/CLTs, etc., that you think of as operating in the Lifehouse tradition, and who you think would be interested in meeting the others embarked on similar endeavors. ๐Ÿ‘Š

Never forget. Never let them forget.

Before the human project on this planet comes to an end, Iโ€™m going to embark on something old-fashioned: a series of urban walks intended to excavate the layers of geography, history, struggle, infrastructure, technology and everyday making-do that sediment into our experience of place. I hope youโ€™ll join me.
