Job opportunities at the Oxford Internet Institute

The @internetarchive is facing a major lawsuit: big publishers are suing the organization for lending out digital copies of books.
This is a case that will determine how libraries can operate in the future. Either there will be a book rental model in the digital sphere - one that has worked successfully, in the public interest, for centuries. Or it will be replaced by commercial control of books (with privacy and censorship risks).
So it is time to stand up and support the Internet Archive:

(Even if – like me – you are not in the US. This is a global issue)
Battle for Libraries

Don’t let libraries die. As the future goes digital, major publishers are suing to cut off libraries’ defense of digital books from censorship. It’s time to fight back.

@geo really interesting to learn about Digital work across Africa.
"we understand digital Taylorism as
not just simply technology intensive, e.g. algorithm driven or automatic,
but as fused with forms of structural control deployed by management,
which Callaghan and Thompson (2001) have argued can be both inten-
sive and unobtrusive as it blends various technological and bureaucratic
elements."

We've published our Fairwork annual report.

One of the things that we highlight in there is the number of impacts that we've had since we started the project. The project has encouraged platforms to make 144 changes made to platform policies!
