Reading this approaches a topic I’ve been drafting lately, that AI is being used increasingly for companionship. A lot of folks view this as a sign of the competency of the models but I think of it as exploiting humanity’s general kindness, our tendency to see humanity in “others”. https://www.bigtechnology.com/p/why-ai-is-the-new-social-media
Why AI is the New Social Media

Companionship is now the No. 1 use case for generative AI, filling a void Facebook could not.

Fuck it. I bought a bunch of fly strips and I’m gonna let em rip.

SCOOP: Internal Palantir Slack messages obtained by @josephcox show the company did a recent sprint to build a tool that helps ICE find the physical locations of people who have been marked for deportation.

I’m not really interested in most garden variety politic posting since I think “I got another thing on how Trump is a hypocrite” is a waste of time and energy.

It IS important to emphasize that the silly things we do on computers and our values around surveillance are inherently political though.

I eyeball almost all the text-based social media apps and the vibe on Threads seems to be the most conservative now which is… surprising.

Not even regular conservatism but the most unhinged and disconnected from reality takes getting plugged.

When the status page is down, you know the service was getting killed. Welcome back, Zoom.

MITRE's CVE is back (for now...). I wonder how the US gov't will handle this with the goal of scaling back gov't participation in cybersecurity.

CISA have, at the last minute, extended the MITRE CVE contract. “The CVE Program is invaluable to cyber community and a priority of CISA. Last night, CISA executed the option period on the contract to ensure there will be no lapse in critical CVE services. We appreciate our partners’ and stakeholders’ patience.” HT @metacurity@infosec.exchange It’s unclear how long it has been extended for.

@nicksdjohnson: Recently I was targeted by an extremely sophisticated phishing attack, and I want to highlight it here. It exploits a vulnerability in Google's infrastructure, and given their refusal to fix it, we'r...…
