Holy moley! Careful oxidation of an azide at very low temps gives rise to an absolutely bonkers bonkers bonkers molecule: N6!!
An allotrope of nitrogen! And it seems to be stable at liquid nitrogen temperature, 77 K. Look at the isotopic signature in the infrared spectra. Spectacular fundamental science.

In case you're wondering, the starting material, silver azide is terrifyingly explosive. This is chemistry at the absolute absolute limit of the possible. Chapeau

Despite the very crusty looking capacitor, the thing actually works!

It connects via four cables, red, black, white and blue.
Red and black see constant 12V, on the other ones there wasn't anything in my DMM, neither between them nor anyone against GND.

But when I put it together it lights up for 3 sec after power-up, informing me of the disconnected VGA input.

Debugging this any further will happen after sleep though, πŸ•· is eepy

Wanted to #upcycle my very first TFT screen into a polarised light panel for stress analysis and such tonight, but can't get this [redacted] inverter board to start up without the mainboard :/

I made shoes! A process thread...

Whoa: Weston, the reference compositor for #Wayland, supports multiple physical independent mice at the same time! πŸ˜€

"New mouse, who dis?"

(See toot later in the thread for how to set this up!)

This is a graphic from a paper on ants but it looks like something I drew in a boring meeting.

(The point it's making is an interesting one, all ants can do all jobs, and you don't need to inject them to make it happen, they will just switch if the job isn't being done. But, I think they found a way to trigger this switch in the paper which would be ... huge, honestly. )

I will not comment on the "ant muscles"

Is everyone interested in ants just... weird?

you want furry paws don't you

have you ever considered multi-colour STN-Displays? They look fantastic and make for great macro shots!

If I’m not fully mistaken this is a so called CCSTN display that doesn’t use a filter to colour the pixels, but rather an optical effect called birefringence. This display does not dim when a different voltages are applied across its pixels, but change colour! So cool and such weird tones :3

Depending on the camera and light angles used, the colours and contrast fully change
