I think I'm just going to say it.

Fediverse has a strong negative echochamber about AI. And I get it, there are many issues I think the industry needs to address.

But there are also many many people out there, big and small, on all sorts of projects, open and closed, that are successfully using it to do good work.

I think it's time to let go of the "all or nothing" bandwagon stances on AI. To exert control we need to condemn the actual issues; https://mastodon.derg.nz/@anthropy/114975700920581718

Anthropy (@[email protected])

Dear anti-AI folk: I hear you, but, please please please, complain about lacking laws and regulations, complain about the specific things you don't like, because being "against AI" is tone deaf, it doesn't arrive and it's too generic to act upon. Whether #AI is here to stay I cannot predict, but in either case it's the boundaries we set right now that will be important for the coming decades/eons, so to actually exert control don't be against AI, be against lack of regulation and control thereof

@gigabecquerel related, I have never regretted asking myself the question "how do folks with decades of professional experience solve this problem, and can I do it that way too?"

Often the answer is totally out of reach, but every time I've moved from a "hobbyist" technique to something more pro it's been both easier and yielded better results.

I love my boyfriend so badly right now πŸ’œβ€οΈ

I'm on a family trip to Norway just as the local university decided to tidy up it's chemistry labs, so he's dumpster diving the hell out of it right now, while I can't do anything but text him what looks like hit or miss, according to some phone pics

"Professional sysadmins treat their machines like cattle, not like pets" or something

Na skill issue (/lh)

I'm giving each of my machines cute funny names, and they all get to live long happy lives with their friends!! And if they grow old and slow and maybe their screens or keyboards don't work so well anymore they can still be helpful and loved

They're my little creatures and I'm never just gonna call one server-02-hotspare
