The statue‘s cost, some €200,000, was funded by fans’ donations and without any financial contribution by the club.

The money was collected by the Kurt Landauer Stiftung, a Bayern Munich fan initiative.

During their club's game vs. Chemnitz, FC Carl Zeiss Jena ultra group Horda Azzuro held a banner in support of the Palestinian city of Jenin, which was recently subjected to an Israeli army operation. At least twelve people were killed in the operation.
