Indonesia is booming as a production hub for sports shoes and sneakers for major brands. The Swiss rising star On is one of the companies that relies on the Southeast Asian archipelago, where production is cheap and the enforcement of workers’ rights difficult – especially when it comes to subcontractors. Now, a trade union, with the support of the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC), of which Public Eye is an active member, has achieved a rare victory: One year after all union members were dismissed by the factory, 64 of them have been reinstated.
