Material Design 3 separates the Top Bar and Bottom Bar from the content using different tonal values to indicate hierarchy.

In practice, this distinction often feels too subtle and visually unclear.

In Fread’s current UI redesign, one key change is adding a subtle Gaussian blur background to the Top Bar and Bottom Bar to create clearer separation from the content. Users can disable this if they prefer.

@fread Recently, Fread has been experiencing some strange crash logs, which seem to be due to pop-up windows, but I have never been able to reproduce the issue. Has anyone else encountered this? Any clues are welcome.

2. You can now set the default position when opening the home timeline—either start at the latest posts or at the last position you were reading. Since Fread also supports paging back through older posts, users who like to catch up on everything can pick “last read position” and read upward from there.

Here are the two big features we just added to #Fread:

1. Theme color now supports Dynamic Color. That means the app can automatically pick a color based on your wallpaper. If you choose “System” (see pic 1), Fread will follow your system theme, so the whole look stays consistent. Personally, I find it really pleasant to use.
