@Orb2069 @benchwhistler @wavesculptor @urlyman Unfortunately we need to protect against both extreme heat and extreme cold.
For instance, my heat pump will eventually need to be upgraded to ground source, if the AMOC flip-over happens. At least we have the piping now, but the cost of replacing gas boilers with **air source** heat pumps was already looking like it would take too long, given current government subsidies and climate denying propaganda. Ground source generally costs several times more.
Meanwhile for extreme heat, efficient passive cooling solutions such as external shutters and ventilation towers as are used in hotter countries generally need planning permission.
If we're lucky solar installations will keep up with AC, but even that is doubtful given the data center boom.
So we're not ready in either direction, and that's only a tiny part of the puzzle.
