We’re celebrating #FluorescenceFriday by highlighting the #OpenAcess @BiologyOpen study from Siyu Yang, Mingzhe Cao and colleagues. They use #zebrafish to investigate retinal development and function and find that loss of flrt2 leads to microphthalmia.

Loss of flrt2 gene leads to microphthalmia in zebrafish

Summary: flrt2 is necessary for the normal development of the zebrafish eyes since it is strongly expressed in the retina and deletion of flrt2 causes microphthalmia in zebrafish

This is a nice summary on @focalplane_jcs of visualisation tools for 3D light #microscopy data.

My go to is #ClearVolume or #ChimeraX (we steered clear of Imaris). Very interested to try out 3Dscript.

Our aMAZ(E)ing #MidweekMovie comes from Connie Shen, Judith Mandl, Nienke Vrisekoop and colleagues. They discover that neutrophils with segmented nuclei have a speed advantage when migrating through confinement spaces

📖 @J_Cell_Sci: https://journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/136/11/jcs260768/316606/Nuclear-segmentation-facilitates-neutrophil

Nuclear segmentation facilitates neutrophil migration

Highlighted Article: Using heterogenous neutrophils mobilized following endotoxin administration in humans, we show that neutrophils with nuclei segmented into more lobes can migrate faster in a physically confined space.
