i was looking for a cost effective and safe ac source. i ended up getting enclosed variable transformer, from a fairly reputable brand - as playing with mains is no joke. according to common opinion, variacs are not that susceptible to inrush current - so no blown fuses etc. well, it seems opinion is not correct. a soft starter would be a nice addition to it. 1/2 #ee
