I wrote a blogpost about an automatic phone call testing PoC I did recently.
The setup can detect a failed phone call. When properly integrated into the postmarketOS Hardware CI setup, it will automatically detect phone call reliability/quality issues.

Hopefully this can take away the fear of the phone not working when you need it and remove a roadblock for daily driving #linuxmobile.

I always find it odd when people talking about high level policy stuff like EuroStack completely ignore end-user devices - Like, if you have fully sovereign EU AI cloud apps, where are you going to access them from? Your iPhone?

Hello world! We are Modal, a new collective born out of the local Berlin community around Linux infrastructure. We're involved in projects like GNOME, postmarketOS, p2panda, and systemd.

We organize the #BoilingTheOcean events, and work upstream on a number of difficult problems in emancipatory computing, including local-first networking, mainline Linux on phones, and platform security.

Our long-term goal: A free software platform that's competitive with the iPhone 🌈

The EU (that includes France) should embrace and support projects like #GrapheneOS rather than criminalize them. If we want to achieve digital sovereignty, we need to make sure that alternatives to Google and Apple can flourish.

Also, Linux on Mobile is becoming increasingly viable (#ubuntutouch , #postmarketos, #mobian, etc.). These alternatives are not quite as mature (or secure, for that matter) as GrapheneOS, but they definitely deserve attention and funding.

Internet age verification kills anonymity and risks your data. It's a terrible idea, and the fact the UK and the most conservative parts of the US were the first to embrace it should tell you that. The EU shouldn't let this bad idea infect you. https://mastodon.social/@Tutanota/115621195342074414

You shouldn't need a driver's license to speak.

Chat Control is back, but slightly changed:

❌ No backdoor of encryption
❌ No forced scanning
🚨 But: Age verification (no anonymity)

The update just quietly passed in the EU Council & now needs to be discussed with the EU Parliament.

👁️Big Techs like #Gmail and #WhatsApp will continue to scan your data.

Will you keep fighting against #ChatControl?

One week ago, the @EUCommission unveiled its #DigitalOmnibus. But here is the thing: the press release doesn’t tell you what this package actually does.

So… we fixed it for them. 👇

@GrapheneOS is being threatened by French authorities for refusing to add backdoors and they're dealing with coordinated attacks in French media right now. They're pulling out of France entirely, moving all their servers, and fighting off a wave of bullshit one-sided reporting that makes them look like they're helping criminals.

They need us to fight back. Support them however you can, whether that's a dollar, sharing their story, pushing back on the garbage news coverage when you see it, or just telling someone you know about what's happening. All of it matters because they're drowning in attacks from governments and media and bad actors who want them gone.

This is the only Android OS that actually makes me feel like privacy isn't just marketing. They fight for us now they need us to fight for them.

The EU is pushing Chat Control and creating an environment where governments feel empowered to threaten developers into compliance, and if we stay quiet we're letting it happen. Show up for them in whatever way you're able to.
