Despite #Iran’s internet blackout, I regularly receive text and voice messages from within the country - people talking about life under attack. One was from a forty-something man, who sounded really low.
"I’m freaking out," he says. He describes seeing "a lot of fighter jets" and hearing "five or six explosions".
Although the war itself is in the headlines, "the people inside Iran have been forgotten", he says.
In his view, all the media talks about is what Trump has said and how Iran responded. "Even Iranians abroad are mostly either dancing and congratulating #Israel, the US, and #Trump, or tearing each other apart," he says.
Meanwhile, inside Iran, he is seeing people "nearly break from fear" at the sound of a door slamming. "The Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, has just been quoted as saying he apologises to neighbouring countries.
“I apologise … to the neighbouring countries that were attacked by #Iran,” #Pezeshkian said, in a speech broadcast by state TV and reported by AFP."
Many people in Iran are still sleeping or just waking up, but I have asked one person in Tehran about how they feel about #Khamenei’s death.
“I can’t believe it. It’s like when they give you such a good news that you don’t even don’t know what to do," they tell me.
"I couldn’t sleep all night, I’m just waiting to start the first day without Khamenei in it. I think the Middle East has become a better place.

Netanyahu says airstrikes have destroyed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s compound and adds that “all indications show this tyrant is no longer with us”.While not explicitly confirming Khameini’s death, this is strongest official indication yet that the missing leader is dead.
