As another example, one of these is a single image from an orchid protocorm from an in vitro cultivation of Laelias. Only a tiny part of the image is in focus.

In the focus stack, the software finds the parts in focus and combines them into a much nicer image.

A very quick focus stack, using screenshots from the latest video from NightHawkInLight.
I'm growing orchids from seed (Laelia rubenscis), and it seems to be going way better than I expected. I have about 20 more plates like this.

Orchid reproduction experiment: Laelia purpurata, batch 2.
Good news: 0 evidence of contamination
Better news: more embryos that I can count!

You can see some specialized structures that will later become leaves or roots.
The round balls are called "protocorm", which is a germinated embryo, and they are so large and multicelular, that I can only show them by stacking (later...)

Orquid reproduction experimentas: Laelia purpurata
Good news: 0 evidence of contamination, in amateur "lab"
Bad news: 0 evidence of viable embryos
