DoH, HTTP 1.1 and Brazil

Does anyone have any insight as to why DNS over HTTP (DoH) connections in Brazil are so biased towards HTTP 1.1? Our working assumption is that there’s some CPE, prevalent in Brazil, causing this statistical quirk.

As a rough guide, the percentage of HTTP 1.1 queries is almost an order of magnitude higher in Brazil than elsewhere. We’d like to understand why.

For those tracking...a new summons against quad9 (alone) on behalf of @CANALPLUS_SPORT to appear before the Paris Court of First Instance on September 30th, 2025, including the usual claims based on Article L.333-10 of the French Sport Code concerning the blocking of 16 websites illegally broadcasting matches of the new season of TOP14 until June 27, 2026. 🙄

Here's an idea...what if Canal+ used their resources to go after the actual criminals instead...hmmmm...just a thought 🤔

Glad to see someone is taking notice!
Could the plaintiffs please redirect their effort to the people actually committing the crime? 🤷‍♀️

Wrong Logo, No Piracy Proof: French Court Rejects DNS Piracy Blocking Bids * TorrentFreak

French courts continue to expand the scope of sports piracy related DNS blocking, but orders are not signed blindly.

Heartened by the number of people sending suggestions on what governments/EU should do to improve life online & the cloud. But simultaneously feeling sad that most ideas have no chance at all of working since folks widely underestimate just how dysfunctional recent government policy making is. And on top, how hard it is in the first place to change things with policies, even with competent legislators.
Proof of Quad9 life (sort of) at #GC3B - at least we think @f0r573r is behind the camera...looking forward to the presentations and discussions this week in Geneva 🇨🇭!

You know that email you write but never send? I thought I'd share the one I composed for Canal+. You can find it on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/posts/simon-4ster_mycanal-tv-sports-s%C3%A9ries-films-en-streaming-activity-7322991561137356801-yWS2/

The letter I can’t write to Canal+: « Dear Canal+ Thank you for your undated legal summons which we received yesterday. Unfortunately, I cannot present myself in Paris tomorrow due to other commitments. Our 4 full time staff are busy too. I don’t think it’s appropriate to ask one of the five contractors working with us to present on our behalf, do you? Anyway, they’re busy as well. A service used by over 100 million users present in 259 locations across 239 cities in 130 countries doesn’t run itself. Quite frankly it amazes me that we manage as well as we do with the limited resources available to us. Your latest summons seems to demand blocking of websites you deem to be infringing upon your rights with respect to Formula 1, although my French is not the best, so I can’t be sure without getting a proper translation done. I assume Canal+ is looking to build on its previous success in the French courts? Although “success” seems an equivocal point as your last “success” saw OpenDNS pull their service from France. Once you’ve run all DNS providers out of France, are you going to set up your own recursive resolver service? “The answer’s Canal+, now what was the question?” Just think, all website traffic in France ending up on your web servers. That’s success. Are you going to be demanding that Sky Sports, ESPN, Sky DE, Sky Italia, DAZN, Movistar+, Fancode, TSN5, SBS, 9Go! be blocked by Quad9? While I appreciate that they hold the official broadcasting rights to Formula 1 in different geographies, if anyone accesses these services in France, they’re pirates, right? I’m sure that Italian viewers won’t mind missing their dose of Formula 1 because of a French ruling in a French court favouring a French company. While this unpleasantness is going on, would it be appropriate for us to decline to resolve queries for canalplus.com? I can’t find any contract stating that we must resolve canalplus.com, but as I’m new here, perhaps one exists in a drawer somewhere? Would you do me a grand favour and send a copy across? Our users may be inconvenienced by not being able to get to canalplus.com but the ones in sub-Saharan Africa and the poorer parts of Asia probably have better things to do than watch Formula 1 with French commentary. The users of Quad9’s services in France will need to make the decision as to whether being protected from phishing and malware attacks, free of charge, thanks to the generosity of the 30+ commercial threat intelligence providers donating their services, is worth the cost of not being able to get to canalplus.com. Anyway, I must get back to working out how we keep our little operation going. We’ve got annual expenditure of less than two million dollars, but we’re struggling to cover that. Not a problem Canal+ will be able to relate to what with a turnover of over €6 billion and a total of over 9,000 employees. Toodle pip. Simon » Quad9 DNS CANAL+ Group #DNS
