@craiglambie42 thanks for the suggestions. I abandoned wordpress a couple of years ago for several good reasons (too long story) and for ghost I have a self operated, open source alternative based on odoo community edition and self created plugins for mass mailing (GDPR compliant)
@craiglambie42 I always tried to be independent. Maybe the way I grew up shaped this quite a lot. Power can always be abused - and strong dependencies make it really worse.
I’m not as “perfect” or good, as I want to be, but the times actually demonstrate, that it’s time to let go convenience and strengthen independence.
Good to know, that I’m not alone 🤙🏻
@craiglambie42 risk management apparently seems to be not most IT departments strength. Outherwhise they would ave thought more than twice to get into such deep dependencies
@craiglambie42 the cost aspect was / is the reason why organisations moved to the big techs cloud. Most people do it for convenience in the private sector.
Own your data is about responsibility. And this comes with a price tag. Companies reduced/removed their IT departments, because the “cloud can do this without the expensive experts” - IT is anyway only a cost factor 🤯 I heard quite often.
Now a new narrative is told: AI is the savior …
@craiglambie42 @moellus until now, i was not into hosting server for the fediverse. But it might be interesting for me to take a look at and see, if the #nolto project can be brought to kife again.
I already operate #odoo community edition on a k8s cluster in my own company and have good exerience in IT Infra and software architecture. Maybe good if others that are interested get together
@craiglambie42 this is an important aspect. Especially for small to medium business with no IT department. I always tell customers: It’s your choice with whom you want to do business. A company where you know the people and its size fits to yours or anonymous giants who want all the best (data) from you.
Another aspect is, that the guys in the neighbourhood companies are most times more generalists. So the customers can speakt to one person to get the problem solved

Ever tried getting a human on the phone from a Global tech giant when your email goes down?
Good Luck!
Local IT means having a partner in your timezone, who knows your neighbourhood. It's about human centric support that values your time over a support ticket number.
