In April 2026, the Sea-Ice global extent was 6.7% below 1991-2020 mean. Since the beginning of records (1978):
- #arctic 2rd lowest monthly mean, with 4.8% less extent than normal (-692,385km²)
- #antarctic 11th lowest monthly mean, with 9.7% less extent than normal (-704,134km²)

New dataset: sea ice drift, tracked daily. Discover daily gridded data from satellite sensors showing how Arctic and Antarctic ice moves. Essential for tracking climate change impacts.
New dataset: https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/datasets/satellite-sea-ice-drift

This dataset is produced by the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (@eumetsat) Ocean and Sea Ice Satellite Application Facility (@osi_saf) and made available by the #CopernicusClimate Change Service (through its Climate Data Store).

OSI SAF's team is getting ready for the fair of opportunity at the @eumetsat #climate symposium.
Come and meet us there!

In September, the #SeaIce global extent was 5.8% below 1991-2020 mean. Since the beginning of records (1978):
- #Arctic, 13th lowest monthly mean, with 11.5% less extent than normal(-681,066km²)
- #Antarctic, 4th lowest monthly mean, with 4.7% less extent than normal (-897,973km²)
As usually, September is the month when the Arctic sees its minimum extent (5,071,505km² on 07/09/2025) and the Antarctic its maximum (18,281,296km² on 13/09/2025)
