I just recently learned about the "A History of Rock Music in 500 songs" podcast thanks to @radleybalko (https://nitter.net/radleybalko/status/1586355918119522304) talking about the The Lion Sleeps Tonight episode (https://500songs.com/podcast/episode-92-the-lion-sleeps-tonight-by-the-tokens/). There are so many stories about artists (largely black artists) getting screwed over during this series, but this one is something else.

Just listened to the “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” episode of the terrific History of Rock Music in 500 Songs podcast. Man, what a twisted tale. A ton of white people get filthy rich off a black South African man’s beautiful melody for decades while he lives and dies in poverty.
