engineering director type

culture > tech every day

he/him

it’s been a few weeks and a slow roll out to close friends but i said yes to @eshamow

i’m grateful for the healing and joy Eric brought to our lives, and i’m so excited to be engaged to someone this ethical, brilliant, astute, kind, funny, silly, dorky, thoughtful, nuanced, and poetic. i never thought i’d find another techie with an artist’s soul and an activist’s heart, never mind someone who shares the same principles in parenting and loves people with the intensity and softness of an ocean

Eric has made me feel so loved, safe, supported, seen, heard — this is a relationship of co-mentoring and mutual support, it’s such a gift to never run out of things to talk about, i can’t believe we just get to code art music game and movies together all the time ❤️

currently we are still long distance— i imagine that will change soon, we are working on it ☺️ don’t know what the future holds but it’s going to be good

"the pitfalls of perfectionism" LinkedIn post from ex-CTO guy who thought testing and security were "nice to haves" and also told devs they could merge their own code because technically committing and merging were two separate operations

ok bro

This reminds me of something I posted on a previous social media account.

“You’ve Got Mail”: a romantic comedy about a little bookstore being overrun by a huge bookstore/DVD store

“You’ve Got ‘You’ve Got Mail’”: a dark comedy about a huge bookstore/DVD store being overrun by an online mail-order megastore.

“You’ve Got ‘You’ve Got “You’ve Got Mail”’”: a tragedy about an online mail-order megastore being supplanted by streaming services.

“No One’s Got ‘You’ve Got Mail’”: a farce about how all movies have become unavailable because companies withhold them for the tax write-offs. ← YOU ARE HERE

“You’ve Got Mail-full-1080p.mkv”: a documentary about the valuable role that pirates are performing as librarians and archivists.

Companies keep telling me to "act like an owner" but I can't figure out how to arbitrarily fire myself to increase shareholder profits.
It's funny watching a white admin meltdown because they got defederated from another instance.

It's really not that big a deal, and if your behavior improves, it can be rescinded.

But this whole song and dance about how BAD defederation is revolves around a glaring lack of self-reflection and why one felt the need to invoke that tactic.

You're not a victim. You just need to do better. Your inability to see the distinction is probably what got you blocked.

But hey, do you.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if Leadership Decision Records (LDRs) were a thing?

(The equivalent of ADRs for software architecture)

It's 2010. I'm writing my own database for a monitoring product.

It's 2014. My monitoring company is acquiring a smaller company that wrote their own database for a monitoring product.

It's 2023. I'm watching a monitoring company present about how they wrote their own database.
