My Klynok typeface has won a D&AD Awards Wood Pencil ❤️

30,000 submissions from 85 countries this year. The first-ever D&AD Pencil in the type design category for Ukraine. This victory means a lot to Ukrainian Cyrillic and to raising awareness about it worldwide. And it means a lot to me.

Rooted in extensive historical research into Ukrainian manuscripts from the late 16th to the early 18th century, the typeface explores traditional Ukrainian letterforms and poses the question: What would the organic development of Ukrainian Cyrillic have looked like without the russian civil script reform of 1708?

This is my diploma project from the postgraduate program at @esadtype. Currently it includes Ukrainian Cyrillic and Latin in display, text, and italic. More on my Instagram.

Klynok (meaning “saber blade” in Ukrainian) is a shapeshifting type system inspired by Ukrainian Cossack Baroque heritage. It also draws from the image of the Cossack-kharakternyk, a warrior figure from Ukrainian folklore believed to transform into a wolf.

I updated my website as an excuse to use Electric Blue from @fontspectrum and to announce that I'm available for freelance type design work.
