Large fossil fuel companies would have to pay fees to help New York fight the effects of climate change under a bill signed by Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul. The governor signed the new law Thursday. It requires companies responsible for substantial greenhouse gas emissions to pay into a state infrastructure fund for repairs or projects that help avoid future damage from climate change. Lawmakers approved the bill earlier this year. It's meant to make big oil and gas companies contribute to the cost of repairs after extreme weather events or for resiliency projects. Such projects may include restoring coastal wetlands or upgrading roads, bridges and water drainage systems. Legal challenges to the new law are expected.

"The whole conception of superior races is merely a myth generated by the overweening self-esteem of the holders of power. It may be that, some day, better evidence will be forthcoming . . . . But as yet no such evidence exists, and all talk of superior races must be dismissed as nonsense."
—Bertrand Russell, "Unpopular Essays"

A message from Canadians:🇨🇦
Dear 🌎 World:
There is no reason for Canada to even consider the possibility let alone discuss our position as a US state.
Let me quote our Prime Minister:
"There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States," Trudeau "
And as a Canadian I am very annoyed whenever anyone brings up the possibility of us giving up our sovereignty.
I am not alone in feeling this, so please never ask again because some of us might not respond with a civilized reply.
Please boost this post--thanks
