@msbellows @ai6yr @steter @sarae I think it's a suspension seatpost. I think this would have a coil spring, but maybe it has an air spring. There would be a Schrader valve somewhere if it does. Sometimes it's at the top of the post and you have to remove the seat to get to it. Does the lever behind the seat lock the post in place? In any case it looks like it's intended to go up and down and thus would need the grease.

If it's broken it may be easier to just get a new one as parts are probably not available.

@W6KME @d_rift @ai6yr I've read studies that show power production in racing cyclists is affected less from the seat being too low than by being too high. For a long time I used the LeMond formula (which really came from his first pro coach in the '70s). Then I found that being a little lower than that was more comfortable and made the same or better power.

@ai6yr When I was into off road motorcycling, BRC seemed like at least partially a front group for corporate land-raping industries like mining and logging.

"every single warning that paper made about large language models has now happened at scale"

1. The hallucination problem before anyone had a word for it.
2. Bias amplification
3. Environmental cost
4. Documentation — the training datasets being assembled were too large for anyone to actually audit

@sundogplanets even then "endeavors to achieve" is weak. It's a concept of a plan. They're just making shit up.

All this reminds me of the movie "Terminal City Ricochet" where one of the plot points was falling space junk randomly taking people out. Other than having Jello Biafra in it, it was a terrible movie. But the falling space junk stuck with me. I think it was after a sattellite with a bunch of uranium on it crashed into Earth. He had a couple songs about it.

@steter @slothrop @12thRITS @ai6yr We bought a set of pans marketed specifically for induction. They're aluminum with a steel disk inside. The smaller ones work fine on the induction stove. The largest one only heats in the center and does not get all that hot. We think they used the same size disk in all of them, and in the big one it's not enough.

Other than that the induction stove is great.

@955_36 The shitty Eichler we rented in Palo Alto in the '90s is on the market for $2.8M! It's insane!
