An #introduction:
I'm Alex Hanna, the Director of Research for the Distributed #AI Research Institute. I'm a #sociology PhD who has been studying #tech and society for over 10 years. I'm involved in #labor and #trans organizing, and am currently Chair of Sociologists for Trans Justice. I sometimes teach at Cal #Berkeley. The rest of my free time goes to #RollerDerby -- I skate, announce, and sometimes referee with Bay Area Derby in #Oakland.
Wow -- what a great set of replies! Thank you everyone. For #1, I see it on the browser version now and will look for a better app. For #2, I see the point about how QT changes the dynamic, but still really wish for the ability to weave in references (not dunk). It sounds like getting & pasting the link to the toot I want to quote is the way to go, as @mikarv says.
@[email protected] the second is also an app thing, if you copy the link to a post and paste it, many apps will expand it as a visible link snippet. it won’t notify the poster so you should tag them if you want them to see your comment. people can’t go from the post to your comment though as they can on the bird site. as mentioned elsewhere, bookmarks exist, but some apps don’t implement all parts of mastodon as they aren’t actively maintained and improved.
As I start using Mastodon more, there are a few features from the birdsite that I'm really missing:
1) The ability to bookmark posts. I see things and want to read them later...
2) The ability to quote another post and post about it (birdsite's QT)
#1 might be an app-level thing. Is there a good Android app for following Mastodon?
It brings a whole new nuance to subtooting, too!
@AndyPerfors lol
I'm pretty sure toot==fart is way older than Mastodon & I've definitely heard it in a US context. And yet still hadn't made that connection on here.
