Happy #Novellavember! Here's my lovely one, illustrated by Kate Baylay: The Imlen Brat. Young Stisele of Imlen, fostering in a dangerous royal court, has no idea how much trouble she's in. Her imaginary friends, if that's what they are, will go all out to protect her.

As gardeners know well, rabbits can do a lot of damage to the plants we humans grow for food. (This has been immortalized in fiction, too - see THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT!) Some archaeologists have suggested that rabbits were often hunted directly from garden plots as a pest management strategy in the past, as part of a practice we call “garden hunting.” We know this did happen sometimes – but how widespread was this strategy, really? I’m in the early stages of a project involving bees and their relationship to people. Upon learning this, someone recently recommended to me @lalinepaull’s book THE BEES. I am so glad they did - it’s an amazing book! Highly recommend. #reading #bees #archaeology

In preparation for the coming semester, I’ve been thinking about the connection between the histories of archaeology and photography as formal disciplines. This photograph was taken by Gertrude Bell, whose work always highlights this connection for me. #photography #archaeology #history
