A piece of strings walks into a bar and asks for a drink.

The barman says, ‘We don’t serve pieces of string here.’

So the string gets up, ties himself around the middle, and he pulls his ends out. And he proceeds to order drinks.

The barman says, ‘here, aren’t you a piece of string?’

And the piece of string, he says, ‘No, ’I'm a frayed knot.’

@ellenmorrisprewitt @emb_cit I’m glad you enjoyed it. Etymology interests me and place names usually end up meaning Dave’s Farm or The Church on the Hill Overlooking the Estuary. My favourite is Manchester because it means Boob Town, as it describes the breast-like shape of the hill it’s built on.

Dear Embarrassed in The Embarcadero,

Are you sure it's "my husband gets so drunk when we go out to eat that he crashes into and knocks over tables when we leave?"

And not more "my husband has a beer at dinner and then does his best Godzilla impersonation on our way out?"

Because if it's the latter, it should be viewed for what it is: a priceless gift.
