I’m Matt, an aging geek living in Ocala, Florida with my wife, three cats, and a dog.

I love motorcycles, desktop linux and other open source software, and sci-fi.

Woot...

* Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS server is up and running.
* Docker up and running.
* Syncthing up and running via Docker.

Now, off to physical therapy for correction of my self-induced folly, and then off to work.

Tonight I'll continue configuring the home server. Mostly this means reading up more on Docker-Compose, Docker itself, and figuring out how all this actually works, gets updated, etc. The whole container thing is fairly new to me, as a hobbyist.

I've been waiting on this route to be finished for literally years. The inaugural ride will be on May 17th and 18th, bracketed by a couple additional days for riding up and staging at the starting point in GA, and returning home from the Everglades on Monday.

Typically DDS's "adventure rides" are set up for big bikes, and the days should be pretty easy, if long. These rides are typically some of the most fun I have on bikes in a given year.

Seeing the Oscar’s last night made me think of these Christmas ornaments my wife requested for her family.

Not my best work, but good enough.

62 days later, and I finally feel whole enough to get the bike out and go over it from end to end.

The accident that broke my leg didn’t hurt the #klr650 but earlier that morning I had managed to wedge a tree limb up through the centerstand and between the wheel and swingarm so tightly that it locked the engine up under heavy throttle. At the time we laid the bike on its side and performed a trailside limbectomy, did a cursory inspection, and took off again.

As expected, it’s unharmed.

There’s a place in Florida called “The Old Brick Road”.

It’s best seen from the seat of an adventure bike… in my case, the venerable KLR 650.

The Old Brick Road

Part of a highway network meant to connect Miami to Montreal, this 10-mile stretch of road made from red bricks is still around 100 years later.

Let’s talk rss. You should use it. (That was easy, wasn’t it?).

If you’re on iOS, NetNewsWire is completely free, it’s open source, it’s simple to use, it’s beautiful, and when told to launch articles in “reader mode” by default, it’s a mostly ad-free experience.

If you want to give it a try and don’t currently have a list of feeds, feel free to grab my exported feed list below for a starting point.

I’ve posted my creations all out of order, but this is the first thing I ever made from polymer clay.

I call him Clyde. Clyde has so many rookie mistakes, but he was so much fun to make. He looks OK from across the room 😄

This little fellow is the 2nd thing I ever made with polymer clay. He’s about a year old now.

It’s such a forgiving medium. Even a fledgling can make something pretty neat.

I discovered the Horus Heresy Warhammer “30K” books last year.

I’m currently on book 18, “Deliverance Lost”, by Gav Thorpe.

I have to say that so far, most of this series has been good stuff. Some books are better than others, but I’ve enjoyed them all.

Anyone wanting to dig into a crazy, grimdark future that spans dozens of books should at least give them a try. As an added bonus, there’s the gaming and miniature aspects that can also be a fun hobby.

Good times. My wife was reminded of physics, mid-flight 😂
