@cstross My expectation is that the US is going to collapse its economy committing genocide against Iran. Once the US economy goes down, a period of global rearrangement happens, only it's going to be happening in a context of repeated famine as the weather gets more angry than hitherto. (Israel does not survive US collapse.)

I think it's also notable that there is no way out of this that doesn't involve "and a miracle"; none of the better scenarios are plausibly materially possible.

Credit cards are not documents. Many people don’t have them. Apple don’t provide any other way to verify your age because they are a stupid American company with American values in which you’re just as human as your credit score.

Twenty years from now, there will be documentaries about how people could vote for Trump. They aren't going to say MAGA voted for a Christian, smart, caring, ethical, or capable man. They aren't going to suggest MAGA voters had a different vision for the nation. Those documentaries are going to say that many people frightened by change, motivated by bigotry, and informed by lies and propaganda unleashed the most damaging force the U.S. and world has seen since WWII.
