#Emacs has started to do something a bit odd today (OK, I know, no jokes about the oddity of Emacs please).

When Emacs is running in a desktop window and I press C-x C-f to visit a file (proper grown-up Emacs terminology, right?), I get what is in the first image. As soon as I start typing, or start choosing an option it all goes back to normal (second image).

If Emacs is full screen, everything acts normally.

What might be going on here?

Looking again at a recording setup (not a "studio", just stuff done in front of my computer).

There are just so many different microphones and audio interfaces.

I've bought a low profile boom arm, and set up my old mixer (with USB output) and one of my Shure Beta 57As.

After so many years of playing, I still have pretty basic knowledge of all this mixing and EQing etc.

So, here is a little test recording (light compression/reverb in Audacity).

Back in the 1980s I was one of many who picketed the Barclays Bank branch on High Street in Coventry (UK).

That was back in the days of South African apartheid, which enjoyed the support and complicity of Barclays.

Tomorrow I will be there again (with many others), picketing Barclays and urging people to close their accounts; this time in opposition to Israeli apartheid and genocide.

Barclays has form. Don't bank on apartheid.
