A warped reflective surface allowed me to look at the world quite differently, a world of colour and blur, indistinct shapes merging and folding into each other. Fragments of passing moments, frozen in shape and texture.

I found this cross section of the indoor courtyard at Humoldt Forum in Berlin to be quite fascinating to look at. Possibly because I had no idea what all these doors could be for.

Isolated from its surroundings, colour, and context, this chimney becomes a study of shape and texture and shadow. I like the sensation of a curved shape on a background that feels almost flat and featureless.

A store near Kotbusser Tor in Berlin is closed for the night, but feels very much alive thanks to its ever-present multi-coloured glows!
A common sight around Weihnachtsmarkten in Germany are these decorative stars that double as lights. I'm not big on decorations at that time of year, but I will say they help to brighten up the drab and grey German winter.

Over the last two years, I have been sharing videos of impromptu piano improvisations, played while wearing hearing protection due to hyperacusis - recorded wherever a piano happened to be available.
Friends’ homes, relatives’ houses, airports - across the UK, Hong Kong, Iceland, Hungary...Without a piano of my own, these moments had to be taken as they came, often quickly, without preparation, and without the possibility of return.
Some who saw these pieces as videos encouraged me to release the audio. Since I had never released anything in this spontaneous form before, it felt like an interesting thing to try. This collection follows that idea: letting the recordings stand, with all their fragility and environmental imperfections intact.
The individual captures remain largely unedited, but have been selected for their shared themes and characteristics from a larger group and brought into a continuous 53-minute experience. In listening back, I found threads running through these moments, shaping them into a kind of eccentric narrative.
Moment’s Notice is, in that sense, both a limitation and a method.
There are be plans to perhaps "properly" record more composed piano pieces in the future - but for now, this is offered as a free / pay-what-you-want download. :-)

At first I was intrigued by the quite random placement of the black bricks. Then the more I looked at it, the more fascinated I became by how the vertical lines appear to be absolutely straight, despite being on a curved surface.

A small section of a large installation piece at Hamburger Bahnhof, the modern art museum in Berlin. If I remember correctly, the left half is a wall painted dark with texture, and on the right hand side is a huge embankment of earth.
