Located in The Corporate States of America.

The antiintellectualism, antiscience, ignorance, antipathy, sexism, racism, & corporate/authoritarian-bootlicking in my country terrifies me.

Art. Music. Science. Empathy. Facts.

Holy crap this site/tool is slow and badly designed.

The LLM discourse on the Fediverse has really irked me the last few days.

Refusing to read writing made with the use of LLMs and refusing to give time to writers who use, promote or justify the use of LLMs is not purity culture, it's a boycott. It's a political act of withdrawing my time, resources and support for something that I find deeply morally wrong. It's protest. I have a choice and I refuse.

LLMs are exploitative, destructive, biased, mediocre parroting machines. Using them has a negative impact on the climate, the arts, the quality of the internet, the job market, the economy, the accessibility of electronics, even on skill development, creativity and mental health. LLMs are made and trained on the unpaid labour of millions -if not billions- of people who didn't consent. Their generic output litter the path to finding anything by true human creators.

Wherever I can, for as long as I can, I reject LLMs and anything that is related to them. I'm boycotting.

@falken
I guess the point for law makers should be that as long as your regulation can be taken as "the cost of doing business" it means it's uneffective, and thus, in practice, still leaves big tech unregulated.
I'd love to see baked in penalties in the magnitude of 10% of anual revenue fines for huge companies. Or maybe more drastic stuff like outright bans from markets.
Unless it's a clear no for these tech psychopaths, they'll still try to sneak in.
@pluralistic

@pluralistic is exactly right - the opposite of fascism is solidarity. There's an incredibly important detail here, which you might spot if I say that the expression of solidarity is community, or even that the market alternative to capitalism is commerce.

These answers to the two-pronged problem of fascism/capitalism are not -isms.

Things like solidarity, community & commerce aren't belief systems, they're something we DO, WITH each other, not TO each other.

To recap the billionaire class war on working people:
•$100M on Trump golf trips
•$172M for jets for ICE Barbie
•$230M in DOJ payments to Trump
•$250M for a vanity ballroom no one asked for
•$40 BILLION to Argentina while our farmers suffer
•$117 BILLION in annual tax cuts to the super wealthy 1%
•$170 BILLION ICE budget to round up Americans like Gestapo

Meanwhile, this is a real actual headline in 2025 America under Trump:
•Trump admin warns of "insufficient funds" for food stamps

Anyone ever wondered what ”information warfare” looks like? Corporate media is demonstrating it. Without the time, experience, and critical thinking skills to discern between propaganda & imperfect journalism, citizens are fucked. The majority of people are too exhausted & roadblocked to learn, and it’s not their fault. The inevitable resulting bad take: “Everything is BS”. Don’t fall for that either.

One of the most terrifying facets of fascism is that it doesn't require great capacity to BE fascist or to DO fascism, but it DOES demand a great capacity of citizens in order to know about, to comprehend, and to fight against fascism. A society of distracted people struggling just to live lacks the necessary extra capacity.

Yes, it’s really embarrassing to see supposedly serious people continue to act like this stuff is mysterious. It’s never aliens.

I Honestly Felt Bad Debunking This

Trying Mastodon again, this time without a damned app; just web interface. BlueSky ownership is getting more gross by the month. What a bait & switch. They created a social media site without the slightest willingness to be held accountable for the social requirements. Their policies are arbitrarily enforced & changed, and show no understanding of power disparity. Their PR sucks. So here I am, trying this thing again. A lot fewer people I follow are here. But hey, more characters to ramble with!

Jesus fucking christicles, @Mastodon , every time I try to use this app, there’s some kind of critical failure of basic functionality.

Today: tapping on the star icon doesn’t like a post; it’s just making a weird animation where the post suddenly scrolls back into the same place it was already in.

Every fucking time I give this app a chance, some shit like this happens and I close it again for maybe another few updates later.

🤦🏽‍♂️

Jesus fucking Christicles @Mastodon , I can’t even scroll people’s feeds without the feed jumping all the Fuck around. There are MANY reasons people refuse to use this fucking thing.
