I am very excited that together with the People's CDC, we are initiating a campaign to get health workers to come together in solidarity with each other. If you are a health worker -- and we mean that as broadly as possible, from public health to hospitals to home health care to pharmacy and physical therapy, from janitors to physicians to nursing and everyone -- please sign on to and distribute the below. #HealthWorkersTogether

A Call For Solidarity Among Health Care and Public Health Workers For The Sake Of Equitable, Universal Care

We are health workers from a variety of disciplines and settings who write at a critical political moment. Healthcare and public health in this country are too fragmented to be truly called a system. Health workers have been charged with patching it together, some of us at great personal cost; but we deserve what all workers deserve. We call for all healthcare and public health worker organizations to work together in solidarity, supporting their colleagues, acting against the hierarchy that still constrains our professions. But what is more: we emphasize this solidarity as a step toward changing the status quo, breaking the grip of rapacious capitalism that substitutes nihilistic individualism for societal care.

Our friends at @[email protected] report that Gov. Hochul has doubled funding for special "hot spot" police teams in New York & wants to double it again. This is the same type of special street cop team that killed Tyre Nichols.

I've spent the last decade writing the same sentence a million times over and over again, phrased differently. I'll try it once more:
Police professionalization is not designed to change how policing operates but is meant to change how everyone else perceives police legitimacy.

“research demonstrates that police perpetrate harm, criminalization, and inhibit linkages to social services. It’s time for public health to reorient public safety programs and resources toward initiatives that don’t involve police and are rooted in care, equity, and prevention.” https://twitter.com/lopez_wd/status/1618609683295793152
