Bugge Wesseltoft – Am Are "The title of the latest LP Am Are reflects 2022's Be Am, but is almost the antithesis of that light piano conversation with himself. ..

It feels as though he has gone to the pub and it is filled with different groups of friends that are intent on different conversations, and he is flitting around like a social butterfly, dipping in here and dipping in there". #norwegian #jazz https://freq.org.uk/reviews/bugge-wesseltoft-am-are/

Firestations – Many White Horses / Songs Of Green Pheasant – Sings The Passing / Field Lines Cartographer – Solar Maximum / Perrache – Mt. Rubble Thanks to the more benevolent side of technological advances, recordings of a roaming and domestic provenance are no longer restricted to four-track strummers or those with the resources of rock royalty. Which, means there not many real limits upon those with advanced levels… https://freq.org.uk/reviews/roundup-april-2025/

Mekons – Horror Recorded in Spain, away from their now globally-scattered homes, the group’s extended latter-day line-up, built around -- but not subservient to -- the long-running core membership of Jon Langford, Sally Timms and Tom Greenhalgh, have delivered an eclectic exemplar of well-matured musical mind-melding. https://freq.org.uk/reviews/mekons-horror/
Drop "Single mum seeks cute, kind man with GSOH; let’s meet in penthouse restaurant for drinks, giggles and … MORE??" At least that’s how Violet hopes her evening will go, until ‘more’ turns out to be a mysterious text message revealing that her young son’s being held hostage and the only way she’ll get him back is to murder her rather promising date. #filmreview #moviereview https://freq.org.uk/reviews/drop/

Hey! Looking for a music studio in Berlin? Located close to Ostkreuz. Some space in mine is available from May (my studio mate became a father!). Shared with me and another producer. Long term. 250 euros per month per person. Sounds really good for mixing. Day light. Monitors with subs, mixer, etc. We share our gear. Large availability in the week and flexible time slots. Feel free to share! Visits next week. Cheers

"Behind Closed Doors is a delightfully varied and emotional discovery that hints at their geography, but doesn't allow itself to be confined to that. Ever stretching and unfurling, Maria Manousaki's vision is personal yet welcoming ... The core quartet of violin, piano, bass and percussion is augmented across the seven tracks by vibes, trumpet, lute, oud and the resonant voice of Stratis Skarakis to ensure a varied and satisfying journey." #worldmusic #crete #jazz https://freq.org.uk/reviews/maria-manousaki-behind-closed-doors/

2025 seems determined, like Ed the Happy Clown, to foist ever-increasing piles of shit on us. But not everything is terrible. The news that Thomas Pynchon has a new novel (Shadow Ticket) coming out later this year is certainly a ray of light! Yay!

Release date is a few weeks before the October bank holiday. I might book an extra day off work and have a 4-day Pynchon weekend. Read the new book, watch Inherent Vice, teach a duck how to sing show-tunes. That kind of stuff.
