Hey there. I know there are a lot of people who will be getting their email from #Spotify in the coming weeks with cool statistics about their "year in review" of what they listened to.

Without wanting to criticize your choice to support this company, I'd like to remind you that Spotify paid and continues to pay enormous amounts of money to podcaster Joe Rogan, who for years has amplified hateful and intentionally misinforming guests on his show, from which millions of listeners get very bad information.

One of Rogan's pet projects seems to have been to promote COVID disinformation and to give voice to prominent anti-scientific loons and quacks. Because his show has so much reach, his listeners are at a severe disadvantage and may believe that the scientific consensus on the pandemic is very split.

It is not. We are in a pandemic, we continue to have increasing numbers of hospitalizations and deaths as a result of the pandemic, and we now have a crisis where some older folks who need a bivalent booster to their vaccine aren't getting it, because they believe that the pandemic is over.

The pandemic is not over.

COVID killed one of my parents, and the mechanism by which that took place was strongly assisted through disinformation. Rogan has blood on his hands, and by extension so does Spotify. By continuing to use Spotify as a service, you are contributing to that company's bottom line, which feeds this monster who seems to have no compunction about amplifying the lies that led to so many deaths.

Please stop listening to Spotify. Even "free" Spotify pays the bills through advertising. Please do not promote their service by publishing your "year end" stats of what you listened to over the past year. I will never forgive Rogan or these people Rogan brings on his show for the massive harms they caused to the public at large and to my family and to me.
