I was rooting for Mastodon, but it looks like Bluesky is winning the race of the open-protocol microblogging systems, so I'm also Doug3.bsky.social.

@maggiejk @TheBreadmonkey Honestly I don’t think you need to be so pessimistic as to say they’d “never allow that.” The movement can build gradually, gaining momentum each time there are favorable conditions in a jurisdiction. #RCV in Alaska has already helped give Murkowski a spine on some votes in the Senate. RCV in #NYC made voters happy and demonstrated its value to the rest of the country. It’s spreading slowly among #Virginia localities. Keep trying in #NH!
@igrok I agree that they shouldn’t pretend not to have counted the second, third, etc. choices already. But consider that there are 55,440 permutations of 11 candidates and five choices. That would be a lot of data to report. They *should* release it on election night, because they must have it, but it’s not as simple as one would hope.
@enobacon But #RankedChoiceVoting even #IRV is always better than plurality-winner. If pointing out that #RCV is imperfect means we have to “ban RCV,” we’re going to be stuck with something worse.
@walterolson.bsky.social https://bsky.brid.gy/ap/did:plc:osfzoqu4wcvan2v2wgivnpcm Yeah. No evidence that #RCV will have that effect. Plenty of reason to believe it won’t (sources say he’s unlikely to get many second- or third-place votes). RCV is not a “wild card”; it _reduces_ the likelihood of random-ish irrational outcomes by ensuring the winner has majority support.

The enterprise formerly known as Twitter is now understood by all to be in the service of right-wing authoritarianism in the United States and around the globe.

There is an uprising against Tesla, which is just a car company. Where is the uprising against X? How can any nonmalicious nonprofit or state or city organization continue to use it for its messaging? Or anyone else.

Rise up!

Musk’s X suspends opposition accounts in Turkey amid civil unrest

Suspensions affect accounts spreading information about the widespread demonstrations.

@minzastro @waldoj Cha-ching, baby. I’m gonna cash in all my extra credit-monitoring subscriptions and retire early.

@waldoj Awesome, free credit monitoring services!

Where were the cybercriminal’s manners?
