There's a temptation to be "nuanced" or to hold "complex" views about AI.

I ask that you please reject that temptation and recognize that full and complete abstinence from AI is a complex view that considers the tradeoffs, compromises with the relative extremes of direct action, and that comes from a comprehensive understanding of what AI is.

I wrote a love letter to Peter Welch's "Programming Sucks" essay, about the state of the tech industry in the age of AI. Hope you'll give it a read & tell me what you think:

Programming Still Sucks. — Writing

Sorry Peter. — I'm at a birthday party, and while most people here also work in tech, there's always a Guy with a Real Job. You know, a physical job, building some or other thing people need. And this Guy always asks some variant of the same question: aren't you worried AI is taking your job? I glance around and see a few faces turning around toward us, rolling their eyes ever so slightly before returning to their previous conversation. Yes, this question again.

Oh is this #PortfolioDay ?

Reviewed a ZimaBoard 2. An incredible device, reminded me of a joy of the first Raspberry Pi

I made a review of a very nice product for scanning film - negatives, slide film, in 35mm and 120 formats - HOLO from BlackScale Lab.

It's available on my youtube channel - TechFi (https://www.youtube.com/@TechFi-te3ik) . If you are shooting analog - check it out.

Additionally, if you want to know more about creation of this system, I made an interview with its creator Dmitry and it is available on my Patreon (FREE tier access) - https://www.patreon.com/posts/camera-scanning-149323274
The Netherlands had a record amount of snow throughout this week.
Today it started to melt. Nevertheless, it was a huge success among the children - nowadays it rarely happens, and the last time NL had comparable amount of snow was about 5 years ago.

I wanted to snap a picture of people having fun at our neighbourhood.
Nothing fancy really, but I really like this picture - especially that it's not very obvious that it was taken in 2026, could have been taken in 1980.

The most succinct and accurate description of the Old Web I’ve seen to date.
Happy new year

Zuckerberg has blown 77 billion – enough money to revitalize entire countries – on an idea so overwhelmingly, obviously stupid that I have never once heard anyone, from the Thanksgiving avuncular table to the most wretched depths of social media, say they liked it or even tried it. He was so sure that it would revolutionize the world that he renamed his extremely famous company after it. And now he's on to the next thing that he's so very, very sure about.

The world needs direction from sober people who aim to improve the human condition, not the whims of a handful of billionaire princelings who absolutely, positively cannot be dissuaded from failing at unprecedented scale while chasing their own vainglory off the edge of a cliff.
