Was recently reminded of this hilarious meeting between the king and a bunch of anarcho-syndicalists in Monty Python & the Holy Grail. Musician friend who lives in an apartment building in mid-Brooklyn tells me that his landlord is a very cool guy who specifically caters to freelancers and other non-normies who have trouble finding places through traditional channels. One of the buildings he owns was nicknamed The Musicians' Dorm.

I thought Dog Day Afternoon (on Broadway) was just great: the dialog, the acting, the obligatory Brooklyn '72 references (Beefsteak Charlie, Crazy Eddie). The accents were pretty perfect. I was even impressed by the blocking, which was well choreographed and thought-through. Ignore negative reviews.

I'm not a big fan of the five-string bass. (The fifth string is a low B, below the lowest string on a normal four-string bass.) It's usually obvious to me when someone's hitting that string because the notes often sound like low electronic pulses rather than notes. #bass
