@sdether not in direct reference to Rust, but unscheduled garbage collection in a VM is problematic. Sure, one can architect around it, but we shouldn't have to.

@nina_kali_nina if I recall correctly, SAIL, a PDP-10 in the basement of Margaret Jacks hall at Stanford, had a ships bell attached which was struck by a solenoid at the appropriate times.
