i did not know about the hand signal for help me, and my stupid ass thought she was flirting.

The Signal for Help (or the Violence at Home Signal for Help) is a single-handed gesture that can be used over a video call or in person by an individual to alert others that they feel threatened and need help.[1] Originally, the signal was created as a tool to combat the rise in domestic violence cases around the world linked to self-isolation measures that were related to the COVID-19 pandemic.[2]

The signal is performed by holding one hand up with the thumb tucked into the palm, then folding the four other fingers down, symbolically trapping the thumb by the rest of the fingers.[3] It was designed intentionally as a single continuous hand movement, rather than a sign held in one position, so it could be made easily visible.

The Signal for Help was created by the Canadian Women's Foundation and introduced on April 14, 2020.[4] It soon spread via the TikTok social video platform and was adopted by the international Women's Funding Network (WFN). It received widespread praise from Canadian[5] and international[6][7] news organizations for helping provide a modern solution to the issue of a rise in domestic violence cases.

I wish someday to be half as happy as this turtle on a skateboard, chasing a cat ...

@vlrny So apparently sucking on a really sour candy can help with panic attacks? Because it wrenches your system away from everything it’s currently doing so that it can go WTF IS HAPPENING to your mouth.

Our housemate read this and gave me a pack of sour candies to keep in my bag, and I was like “fine, I’ll hold onto them, but I doubt that works,” and then last weekend had a doozy and it did help, knocked it down by about a third. I was impressed!

It took me three weeks of livestreaming to get this image done (six 3 hour sessions) because I made two Raven images to import as assets into this third image.

And after a bit of additional offline tweaking, It’s finally complete!

“Raven Raven”.

It’s available as a greeting card here:

Here are the three speedpaints:

I use Procreate to draw these, so they’re all #HumanMade. I print them out on my own high-end studio printer and then package and post them myself.

@Coreyartus Those are so beautiful! You've really brought up the feeling, too, of the Pacific Northwest in these images, too!
@joyce I'm also on the east coast, up in Maine, and it's been awful. Today especially. Before the pandemic, my family took a few trips to Scotland and northern England (research-based, but also vacations), which were so delightful, but I especially remember the incredible weather: cool, comfortable, just perfect. And how miserable it was when we came back. For years I kept Edinburgh, Jedburgh, and Corbridge weather on my phone, just to remember.

This month, thanks to a workplace sabbatical, I've been able to get some focused writing done of a kind that's very hard to accomplish with a full-time job. I've written all my published works with my job, squeezing in writing on evenings, weekends, and holidays, so I know I can do that. But being able to start in the morning and keep writing, and not have to not stop for the day job, or focus on any "work" other than my ideas, has been utter bliss.

Speaking of weak Democrats, you have no idea how much trouble I've had getting Democrats in #Maine to introduce or otherwise advocate for gun reform legislation. I've written multiple times to the chair of the Democratic Senate Committee, the Executive Director of the Maine Democratic Party, Senate President Mattie Daughtry (my state senator), the Maine Gun Safety Coalition, and more. All of them refuse to answer me. What cowardice. #Politics #Democrats #Guns #GunReform #Democracy #US #USpol

@antoinnesterk Oops, I didn't read to the very bottom 🫢

@antoinnesterk love it. We have a similar Dragon Tree near where we live in Wolverley, UK.
